With the Spring elections finally behind us, let me first Congratulate all the winning
candidates of the municipal and county contests.

Many of the participants in the campaigns, winners or losers, will probably take
some much needed time off before turning their attention to the 2010 election cycle.

Primaries are less than a year away, and those who man the political trenches will
soon be called upon again to step up and fight for what they believe in.

Some of the Races.....

What we can look forward to in 2010 is a wild ride involving some of the biggest
names Texas has to offer.  None bigger than the Republican. Primary race for
Governor  between Gov. Rick Perry and Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchinson. One of them
will face the winner of the Democratic nomination for Governor, from a field that
includes Mayor Bill White of Houston, and Fr. U.S. Ambassador to Japan Tom
Schieffer.

Texas Senate District 2 will also be in play, with Democrat Kathleen Shaw of Cedar
Hill, challenging incumbent Republican Sen. Bob Deuell of Greenville . This is but
another indication that North Texas is trending Blue.

Locally in the Dallas County Commissioner's court, Democratic Judge Jim Foster is
being challenged by many from his own party, which include but not limited too,
Dallas attorney Clay Jenkins,  former state Rep. Sam Coats, and Dallas County
Schools Board President Larry Duncan.

Also in Dallas  County , Republican Mike Gothard, current Constable in Precincet 2,
is being opposed by Democrat Jerry Pittman, of Rowlett, who is  a Deputy
Constable in Precinct 3 and former Police Leiutenant for Garland PD.

One race that is being anticipated, is the one for Justice of the Peace 2-2. Currently
incumbent Judge Ken Blackington is unopposed, but be watchful for a Democratic
candidate to step up.

It's hard to believe that thoughts of 2010 could already be at the forefront our our
minds. So get that rest and relaxation while you can, because it'll be time to hit the
campaign trail again soon.

Tomorrow there will be  a picnic and gathering at the Sunnyvale Town Park Pavilion
from 3-7 pm. Everyone is invited to spend the afternoon with fellow Democrats,
friends and neighbors. This event is co-sponsored by the Dallas County East
Democrats and the Sunnyvale Democrats. Hope to see you there!

I'm finishing the agenda for tomorrow's meeting. On it will be the PAC, I will be
setting a vote on it for the June meeting.  So in the next month before that happens,
maybe we could, or some of us could, get together and talk about it.
May 29, 2009

The meeting was very good we had a full house, and 17 candidates came. We
discussed our successful Picnic in Sunnyvale,  The club has a date to vote on
creating a PAC set for June 24,  We're looking forward to the OFA healthcare reform
kickoff parties on June 6.

There is alot going on.  Even today here in Mesquite the Texas Coalition of Black
Democrats are holding a mixer and membership drive at the Buffalo Wild wings at
6pm, a few of us are planning to go to that.

Also at our meeting, we had representatives from both the Dallas Stonewall
Democrats and from ACORN. Mark Thompson, who is running for Governor of Texas
was even at our meeting.  It was great.

One thing that has come up is that we are thinking about maybe moving the location
of our meeting spot. Paula Sue's Diner is becoming too small to hold everyone who
attends, it's full at 40 when we get to 60, like the last two months, it's standing room
only and very crowded.  I'm thinking maybe somewhere in Mesquite.

Next month's meeting is on the 24th, but we hold a weekly Democratic Social at the
Panera Bread in Mesquite (635 & Towne Centre) 8am-10am
It wold be great if you could make it.

He asked who he should speak to, if he has to go to the party HQ then we should
refer him there.  We can provide the precinct chair list.   If we provided a list to him,
it will be no problem to provide it to other candidates when they ask us.   Our club
has a great reputation of being fair to all.   Once the primary is over then there will
only be one candidate in each race, and there won't be a problem.
Otherwise anyone can personally support the candidate of there choice.

Are you worried about big drama or is there chance for a real problem such some
kind of  sanction or fine against the club or individual?  if not, are we supposed to
worry about hurting somebody's feelings? Not that I want to do that, we should
avoid doing that.

Two of His opponents attend the DACED or DACED events regularly, one of them is a
member. One opponent has never visited us. He is not a vested member either.  I
am very happy,  that they think our club is worth being involved with, and they attend.

I support helping all Democratic candidates equally and fairly.  And of course it
dosen't hurt at all for a  Democratic candidate to be involved with the DACED.

Do you have a date yet for the training at the library?  and will you be at this week's
Social at Panera?    Also, at next month's general meeting we will be voting on the
PAC. It would be great if you could be there to vote on it.
May 30,  2009

It is so great that we have someone like you to keep us in line in this area, and I urge
you to make it to a meeting soon, and you would see that we are not the same club
you remember, They are both active members of our club and we would no doubt
provide the same opportunity to her or  his other opponent anytime they ask. We
have several members that are running against each other and have made great
effort to support all of them equally in providing what we provide for everyone , a
forum for the democratic candidates and support each of them in their efforts
equally. But if you feel it would be better we can tell both of them. If you think it
would help, I know neither one of them will be hurt or surprised. We work hard to
help ANY democratic candidate with anything they need if it is within our realm of
fairness and I think they know this and why they are coming to us for different
things. I really don't see this as much difference than what we do for any long time
member of our club.  He knows we are a recourse for him and he utilizes us, and I
feel that is what we are here for.

We have also made it very clear that we as a club support no individual candidate
nor do we endorse candidates as a club, and have been commended by party
leaders as well as candidates for doing so. We have come so far in the last 6
months and I too would hate to see something silly hurt the club so if there is
something you feel we  have done please  continue to do as you are and keep us in
line.

I hope you all had a great weekend. I wanted to let y'all know that this Past Saturday
we had our largest Democratic Social of the year so far at Panera Bread. 17 people
were in attendance, 4 of the candidates (Jerry Pittman, Mark Thompson, John
Carlough, and Davey Lamb) we had a great time.

I would like to ask, if any of you know of any Juneteeth  events happening in
Southeast Dallas County.  If you do, please let me know. Thanks.

I think Bankruptcy will be the only way GM will straighten this listing ship of theirs,
the American auto makers mindset is totally different from that of Japanese or
Korean. I've read, for one example, the yearly Salary for Ford's CEO is $21 million a
year, compared to Toyota's CEO who make s less than $1 million yearly. GM has
alot of work to do if it doesn't want to vanish into Automotive History.

As President Barack Obama seeks to overcome the  monumental hurdles previous
administrations have failed to conquer, the overwhelming task of obtaining true
reform of our nation's Health Care system is something that may finally be within
sight of the Americian people.

Although many critics have questioned whether the President still has the support
on the groundto support such an initiative, this doubt is nowhere to be found in the
members of the grassroots group leading this effort on his behalf:  Organizing for
America.

Organizing for America, formerly known as Obama for America, has called on the
people of Texas to host Health Care organizing meetings in their homes beginning
on Saturday, June 6. These meetings that proved successful during his campaign,
provide a way for supporters to engage each other and talk about the actions
needed in the coming weeks and months to make Health Care Reform a reality.

In Dallas County, 23.7 percent of residents are uninsured. This closely matches the
state percentage of 25.1 percent.  This is unacceptable. We must all come together
and work toward fixing this problem. The high-cost of Health insurance and the
large number of uninsured people puts a strain on our local hospitals and county
budgets, which is reflected in the tax rates on residents and ultimately impacts the
local economy.

To begin making a difference on this huge problem that we all face, we start small.
The meetings that will be held June 6, made up of friends and neighbors, will kick
off  community efforts to push for the reformof health care by learning more about
the President's three core principles to fix our healthcaresystem, which are to
reduce costs, guarantee choice, and ensure affordable care for all.

President Obama believes that healthcare reform must be accomplished this year,
if we are to get it done at all.He has stressed that it will only become a reality if
grassroots supporters mobilize  in every community in America. The administration
belives this is a ideal chance to prove that the movement that started during last
year's campaign is still alive.

Currently there are over 30 meetings scheduled in DFW, however none as of yet in
Balch Springs. The kickoff  meetings are being asked to be held between Saturday
June 6 and Wednesday June 10, with a follow up community service day on the
weekend of  June 27-28.

Anyone wanting to help by hosting a Health Care Kickoff meeting, is being asked to
sign-up at
www.my.barackobama.com/HCkickoffhost  or  if you would like to share
a  health care story:

I respect all points of view, I ask you to do the same. Remember who you are talking
to and do not be insulting. I know we all don't agree on things, but we can be civil to
each other.

Democratic Gubernatorial  Candidate Mark Thompson has, within the last week,
made 3 local appearances.

Thompson, who announced his candidacy for Texas Governor on May 13th,
attended the  most recent monthly  meeting of the DACED in Balch Springs on May
27. There he gave a short stump speech, which was only his second one since
announcing his gubernatorial run.

The following Friday evening (May 29) Mr. Thompson was at Buffalo Wild Wings in
Mesquite, where the Texas Coalition of Black Democrats were holding a
membership drive and mixer.

The next day (May 30) he was in attendance at the local weekly Democratic Social
held at Panera Bread in Mesquite, with local Democratic activists and Candidates.

Currently, Mr. Thompson is the only Official Democratic Candidate for Texas
Governor. Although, Tom Schieffer and Kinky Friedman have both said they also are
considering running for Governor.

Mark Thompson previously made an unsuccessful run for Texas railroad
Commissioner last year.

Shannon and I went to the Dallas County Young Democrats Monthly Meeting this
evening  at Zubar on Lower Greenville. Their program tonight was a legislative
wrap-up with Sate Representatives  Alonzo, England, Giddings, Hodge, Kent, Miklos

importance of the 2010 elections because of redistricting.
