District 101 was turning Democratic before Obama's election. It's Democratic right
now. It's certainly and obviously not Tea Bagger -Birther Red like these two
candidates would like to portray it.  Rep. Miklos best represents the current values
and thinking of the citizens of TX HD 101.  Electing any of the Republican candidates
to the statehouse to replace Miklos, would be a misguided move.

Justice of the Peace candidate Wesley Johnson (D) participated in this past
weekend's NAACP  MLK Day Parade in Garland.

Even with a light rain and overcast skies, candidate Johnson, along with friends and
supporters,  walked along the Parade route with hundreds of other people Saturday,
in remembrance of  the great civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr.

the leagcy he left our nation.  It is an honor for Mr. Johnson to participate in this
event commemorating the life of this great American.  Few people in the
history of the United States have made such a profound and lasting impact on the
lives of its citizens. Without Dr. King, we would not have the America we have today.

Mr. Johnson would like to thank the Garland NAACP for putting on this annual
parade, and allowing him to participate in it.

Wesley Johnson is running for Justice of the Peace Precinct 2 Place 2 on the
Democratic ticket. Precinct 2 covers the communities of Mesquite, Garland, Sachse,
Rowlett, Sunnyvale, Balch Springs, and parts of Dallas.

Happy President's Day  DACED  friends,

The month of February is moving right along, and come next week (on Feb. 24) it will
be time to hold our next General meeting.

At last month's meeting our Speaker was Dallas D.A. Craig Watkins, and we held a
watch Party for President Obama's State of the Union Speech.  Due to both, we had
a huge turnout. It was a great way to start off the new Year.   I recently received a
Thank you letter from D.A. Watkins
CLICK HERE to see the Letter.

The next DACED executive committee meeting will be held this coming Sat. Feb. 20th

I would like to remind our clubmembers that have not yet renewed their
memberships that they are now due.  We will have some votes on By-law
Amendments that will be made at our next meeting and I want to make sure those
wanting to participate on those votes are able to. So please renew your
memberships.

At our meeting on the 24th  the Program will be "Focus on the Candidate"   each
candidate will be given 4 minutes to speak, and will take one (1) question from the
audience. Since our meeting will be taking place in the last half-week of early-voting
and will be one of the last Democratic club meetings before Primary Election Day, I
expect we'll have many candidates on hand.  If anyone has a question, please email
me.

One last thing,  for the March 2nd Primary election many local districts are short of
Precinct Judges. For example, 101  has 8 precincts without judges, The precincts
are 2301, 2308, 2313, 2315, 2317, 2320, 2327, 2328. Anyone who wants to be a
Judge does not have to live in the precinct to do so. Please check with the DCDP or
local Chair coordinator for more information.

Today I received an email from Mr. Phillip Willis of Mesquite.  He has a problem with
overnight truck traffic at Town East Blvd. between Forney and Skyline roads. He says
he has already spoken to the City of Mesquite, but his problem has not been
resolved.    This is the email he sent to me:

Dear Sirs,
I presented the City of Mesquite with a petition signed by 40 homeowners who reside
in homes next to Town East Blvd. between Forney and Skyline roads, to get them to
address the overnight truck traffic that wakes us every night. They responded in a
letter to me that they had gathered data and basically our idea to redirect overnight
truck traffic one block over through an industrial area just can't be done. Oh they
came out and did a couple of road patches right next to my home in some attempt to
pacify me. They claim that that decibel readings were taken prior to and after the
repairs were done and the sound level had dropped. Well it did not stop the rumbling
and the literally shaking of our properties due to the trucks. They stated that Town
East has been a designated truck route since 1963. Well in 1963 there were no
homes or businesses along this stretch of road. These subdivisions were just going
up 25 years ago when I had my home built. Town East Blvd. was only a 4 lane street
with a few trucks traveling it. I had an open pasture across the street form me with
cows roaming. It was pretty peaceful. That pasture gave way to two large
warehouses. That is just two of the many that have been thrown up all around this
area now. The city claimed that they also placed traffic counters on Town East
adjacent to my house and that on an average there are 632 18-wheel trucks that
pass by between the hours of 7:00pm and 7:00am. I found this ammusing for two
reasons. One, I would have noticed the traffic counters next to my house as I do
drive it everyday. I never saw any. Also if you do the math, that would mean a truck
passing by every five minutes during that time. That is just not true and makes a
person wonder where they really got these numbers and do they think we are so
ignorant as to not know any better. If it was that many, I probably would have moved
long ago. But it isn't and my home is payed for and as I am nearing retirement I was
not planning on having to sell and possibly take on another mortgage. They also
stated that they contacted ALL of the businesses on Town East Blvd. between Forney
and Skyline roads and that the majority of those indicated that redirecting the traffic
would put a negative impact on their operations. Now this is interesting considering
that there are only the TWO warehouses that I mentioned before, on this stretch of
road. One of those is vacant but has an entrance off of Chase Rd.,(this is the road the
redirected traffic would take)as well as off of Town East. The other one which is
directly across the street from me, only has an entrance from Chase Rd. You cannot
get into it from Town East. Now how do you get a majority out of that? Come look for
yourself. Again they assume we are ignorant and don't know any better. I did reply
back with a letter to the City Council as well as to the gentleman that wrote the letter
to me, to tell them of these discrepancies and to ask them to look into it again. They
have decided to ignore the homeowners request for some overnight peace and it
seems that they don't dare inconvenience a few truckers by asking them to go a
block out of their way during overnight hours. Channel 8 News did a story one night
on this, which I really appreciate, but when they were at city hall, they did not ask
anyone to explain the facts that they came up with. Whenever it has been brought up
to anyone with the city, they act as though we are asking for Town East not to be a
truck route at all. That is not the case. We are talking about OVERNIGHT traffic. It
bewilders me that this is the way that our supposedly professional leaders of the city
would choose to treat it's taxpaying homeowners. Let me say also that truck traffic
has been redirected in the same way on Gus Thommason Rd. between North
Mesquite Rd. and Town Center. Again, look for yourself. I even took pictures of the
street signs there informing truckers and presented them to the city. I don't know if
you will print this or if you have any influence to the city to study issues like this, but
we would appreciate any help that we can get now since the city has turned a deaf
ear to it's residents. Thank you.

Sincerely,

Phillip Willis

While everyone else in Texas is facing cutbacks here is a little tid bit for you , did
you know Rick Perry has full time and part time chefs, paid for by taxpayers. After
Bill White was elected as Mayor, he eliminated the position of chef for the Mayor--no
press release, just the right thing and set an example for city employees about use
of tax dollar.

Although we strongly encourage our members be involved in their government on
every level and work to get people they believe in elected. In light of recent rumors
and erroneous implications I would like to remind everyone that DACED, as a club,
does not, has not and has no intentions in the near future of endorsing any
candidates in primary or municipal elections. Any individual endorsement by any
individual or group of individual members of our club is just that, individual
endorsements, and is not supported by the organization. If you hear differently
please notify a member of the executive team.

In a perfect world you are right, except how do Mr. Jones and Ms. Appleby get
chosen? Call it Republican , call It Democrat Call it Tea Party whatever you want, the
words are just words its the way of thinking behind them that has the pushing force
and the thinking on all sides are very different and all deserve to be represented,
but we can't very... See More well have millions of Mr Jones and Ms Appleby  and
expect to get anything accomplished.. Like it or not government is necessary. In my
opinion, If you want people that best represent how you want your city, state ,
country ran, and the one whose values best align with yours, then you as one
person are not going to be heard, there truly is strength in numbers.

I think you yourself half way through your "rant' mace the point not all Government
Regulation is bad there are some cases that we NEED regulations to keep these
things from happening. And I too am wanting someone to step in and say take
control of that situation, I want them to stop all these type things not just BP until
they can tell us this cant happen again. But I was against Off shore drilling from the
beginning.

And I never said Republican or Democrat I just said the people coming out now
saying those things are stupid,,,  You are smarter than using Sarah Palin Talking
points (DNC Contributions). You and I both know there is not a Politician in
Washington that is not taking contributions from one place or another that can be
seen as inappropriate on some level, which is why we need Campaign finance
reform,, Level the playing field...
May 24, 2010

How about a little consistency please. You can can't say prior to oil spill - "Drill baby,
Drill, there's too much govt. Regulation on big corporations, let the market work,
blah blah blah." And, then after the oil spill say - "Why isn't the govt. Doing anything?
Where were the regulators? Obama needs to do something!"... Well, you can say
that, but it would be stupid...

We'll be holding our May General membership meeting Today.  I do hope to see
many of you this evening at Martinez.

Our Speaker this evening will be Trisha Card Operations Manager for the Mesquite
Social Services. She will be speaking about what the MSS is, what they do, and
what project(s) they currently have underway.

With Ms. Card coming this evening, I would like us to give a donation to the MSS,
either with a donation of food or money.
May 26, 2010

At Tonight's DACED meeting we had some very good discussions. Trisha Card's
presentation about the MSS was very informative, and I thought the Candidates
spoke very well and the questions given by the Audience, were not softballs.
Our clubmembers are some of the most intelligent and passionate around, and they
sure did show it tonight.

a club President I have made it a point to try and understand points of view that may
be different from my own. It helps when tackling the big issues that our party faces.

No politician should ever be seen as untouchable. Least of all someone like
Hensarling whom arrogantly will look you in the face and tell you he will never be
representing you, with a smile even. Tom Berry may be ahead of his time, be he is
head and shoulders a better chance of actually having someone in the Congress
that actually does work for the people, not for his own political interest. Do not
forget how Mr Hensarling basicly laughed in our face during the healthcare talks..
June 28, 2010
