There is a Democratic challenger to US Rep. Sam Johnson in the 3rd congressional
District.

John Lingenfelder Jr. of Plano is seeking the opportunity to represent the citizens of
the Texass 3rd congressional District in the United States Congress.

Mr. Lingenfelder has been involved with local political and community organizations
such as CHOICE, KQUIPS, ACLU of Texas, and MoveOn.org.

He does not believe that the people of the 3rd district have ever had a Progressive
view and that is past time for them to have one.

Good luck Mr. Lingenfelder.

Since I first wrote to all of you about Mr. Massey, I have heard from many  about
what you can do to help.  Fernando and I have already visited him, as has Riki Smith
from Judge Foster's campaign, and DACED member Sarah Norman.

Mr. Massey has enjoyed all the company. Fernando and I have yet to speak with the
nursing home's administration, But Sarah spoke with one of the nurses.  We are
going to find out more about the rules concerning Vincent and what we can and
can't do.

Vincent has requested   Church's Fried Chicken (dark meat - thighs and legs), french
fries, and a six-pack of Coca-Cola.  He is also in need of having his hearing aid
adjusted, and he needs someone to take him to his Hearing aid provider for a  new
hearing test and to tune his hearing aid.  He told Riki that  the audiologist is located
on Garland Rd. near Easton.  This will  require someone with a car or truck large
enough to hold his wheelchair, and he may need help getting in and out.  Sarah had
learned that  he could leave for outings, but you have to go thru his nurse to do it.

We're gonna have to ask about all this, especially about his diet. Fried food and soda
may not be the best of ideas for someone who has had a diabetic stroke. --  We'll
have to see which of us that are has a vehicle that can accommodate his wheelchair
and is interested in helping him to his audiologist.

Maybe at some point we can come up with a group schedule, so we don't overlap
with each other and everybody would have someone to go with to visit Vincent.

Sarah also learned that his mealtimes are 8-9:30AM, 11-12:45PM, and 4:30-6:00PM.
He doesn't want to talk during mealtime.

Vincent would really like to receive emails from us, so his email address is:
vinsnt@aol.com   it would be wonderful for all of us to write him.

What do all of you think?

I try to do my best as an educated voter, to not just understand the candidate, but
to help the voting public understand as well.

To serve in public office is a very noble thing to do and I respect all who wish to do
so. I think your a great person and wish you the best of luck in your race.  I Look
forward to seeing you again soon.

Happy New Year !

I hope the new year has been good so far for all of you. I look forward to seeing you
all again soon. This coming year is going to be great, it's going to be exciting, and it's
going to be a year to remember.

Let me start off with the last event our club participated in.  On December 12 we had
an entry in the Balch Springs Christmas Parade. Five of us braved the cold and rain.
We met and spoke with many people in the community. After the parade we had a
booth at the festival that followed.  It turned out wonderful.
I have posted pictures from the Parade and our booth on the photo page.  One photo
that was taken of our club's entry, was published in the Dec 18th issue of the
Mesquite NeighborsGo Newspaper.

I would like to also say that our Democratic Socials at Panera bread continues to be
well attended.  last Saturday's Social had 12 in attendance.
Next Saturday, January 9th, we'll officially mark One-Year that we've been holding
our Panera Socials. If you haven't made it yet, this would be the perfect time to start
coming.

The next general membership meeting is Jan. 27.  And please remember, those of
you wanting to submit an amendment to our  club's By-Laws, will need to submit
them in writing,  and our club's next executive committee meeting will be held on
Jan. 23.

So, once again, Happy New Year and I will see you all soon.

so many people brave the cold to attend.  Judge Mark Stoltz came for the first time,
it was great to have him join us.  Next week we'll be marking one year of our Socials.
After the Social, Fernando and I went to do some phonebanking for the Bill White

This past Thursday (Jan. 14), the 2010 Mesquite Relay for Life held it's kick-off at
Town East Mall.

This year's event in Mesquite will be held the night of may 14-15th at Berry Middle
School.

Relay for Life is the main fundraising event for the American Cancer Society. It is
held each year in  over 5,000 communities in the United States, raising hundreds of
thousands of dollars for  cancer research, as well as spreading cancer awareness,
celebrating  the lives of survivors,  and remembering  those who lost their lives to
cancer.   The goal for this year's Mesquite event is to have 50 participating teams
and to raise $100,000.

At Relay, teams of people camp out at a local school, park, or fairground and take
turns walking or  running around a track as part of the fundraising effort. Each team
is asked to have a representative on the  track at all times during  the event.  Relays
are an overnight event.

The chairperson for this year's Mesquite Relay is Debbie Screws, her Co-chair will
be Carolyn Felkner. The American Cancer Society staff partner for this year's Relay
will be Brittany Johnson.

All three were on hand for the Kick-off event, with Past Relay-Chair Shirley Roberts,
as she  presented them with a proclamation from Mayor John Monaco, proclaiming
January 14, 2010 "Relay for Life Kick-off Day 2010" in the city of Mesquite.

If anyone would like to participate with the Mesquite Relay for life or have questions
please contact: mesquiterfl@live.com or call 1-800-227-2345.

represents as the theme for their team.  Examples include: Black for Melanoma,
