It isn't going to change until people understand that what's happening in Austin is
going to affect them personally.
If an impassioned politician stands up and says, "We have to thi...nk about the
children and the future!" people might agree, but maybe that won't matter come
election time. People want to believe that everything is going to be just fine, and the
people pushing these cuts are skilled at convincing people that things are not what
they really are.
But, if a parent realizes that these cuts are going to take teachers and books--a lot of
them-- out of their own children's classrooms, it starts to mean
something....especially considering that they were led to believe the Texas budget
was okie-dokie during campaign 2010. People don't like to be lied to or betrayed.
We don't get "do-overs" with our children. These financial games that the
supermajority are playing will affect us for a long, long time. We may not be able to
stop them from happening right now, but we can certainly make sure these people
are held accountable in 2012.

So the letter I got from Ms Burkett today on the closing of the passing of the budget,
calls us "The Minority Party" about 12 times throughout, it was rather annoying. Its ok
you can say it Ms Burkett, we are DEMOCRATS, there may be a few that are afraid to
say it out loud, but most of us are proud of it. PROUD TEXAS DEMOCRAT

I received the Mesquite Chamber of Commerce's E-Newsletter 'The Voice' today in
my Inbox. Within it, there was a section about how MISD would not be holding it's
traditional Annual New Teachers welcome luncheon due to a Hiring Freeze and an
effort to conserve (conserve what? it didn't say, I'm thinking money). It went on to
express that this year will be different because MISD does want to welcome
teachers they will need to hire from retirement and for replacements due to
turnovers. So they plan to give out approximately 75 goody bags to distribute
between MISD and Mesquite private schools.
This is only a Luncheon, But it is a taste of what will be happening to our Public
Schools due to underfunding our Public Education system. What will MISD be
canceling next?

90%? Mr. Sower, with all do respect, you are very misinformed. Planned Parenthood
is an awesome program that does great things for women , well beyond performing
abortions , that is a very small part of what Planned Parenthood offers. And about 20
out of every 1000 women in Texas choose abortion for whatever reason, that comes
nowhere near 90% thank goodness.

I attended Rep. Burkett's Balch Springs Town Hall meeting this evening at the Balch
Springs Public Library. Less than half the amount of people were there than
attended the Sunnyvale Town Hall. The Mesquite meeting is on Thursday.
July 7, 2011
State Rep. Burkett is holding her 3rd Town Hall meeting this evening @ the Mesquite
Arts Center at 7:PM - the address is: 1527 North Galloway Ave. I plan to be there, I
hope to see you there too.
July 7, 2011
State Rep. Burkett has sent out her most recent e-newsletter today. In it she talks
about all the Accomplishments that were made during the session. - I'm not so sure
myself.
As she lists these accomplishments, I think she has shown that she has done
nothing towards solving the root causes of our state's problems, and has not helped
our State move forward in ways of Prosperity and Quality of life.
July 7, 2011
I went to the 3rd and most recent Town Hall meeting from State Rep. Cindy Burkett
this evening at the Mesquite Arts Center. I fund it interesting who was there and
asking questions, and whom was not there.
She spoke about what was accomplished during the session, what was passed and
what was not. She answered several questions from the audience. This is the 3rd
town Hall she's given in the Past 2 weeks. Everything she spoke about is in the
e-Newsletter she sent out today.
My question was - I wanted to know what she thought; Did she think our State's (U.S.)
Congressional Reps. should work to achieve a compromise on raising our country's
debt ceiling limit. She began with stating the regular Republican position about
spending and such, you would expect, But in the end, she acknowledged that
compromise was the way to go.
July 8, 2011
No, When Robert was State Rep. Mayor Monaco was at nearly all his events, he had
one or two Council members attend some events, and I think once he had Dr. Henrie
attend one of his events as well.
July 8, 2011
Fact Check #1 from State Rep. Cindy Burkett's Town Hall last night.
Ms Burkett, when ask what should be happening in Washington related to a
compromise on the debt ceiling; she replied "Something has to be done we have
raised the debt ceiling 3 times in the last year, it can't continue".
FALSE: The last time it was raised was February 2010.
Fact Check #2 An obvious Tea Party supporter ask Ms Burkett if the new sonogram
bill would require sonograms on all abortions. Ms Burkett's answer was the bill
would require the Dr. to give the woman the OPTION to have a sonogram.
False: No Ms Burkett, The sonogram bill that you are so proud of, does not make it
required that they OFFER sonograms to women seeking abortions, it REQUIRES they
be given the sonogram. There is no option involved.
Fact Check #3 When ask by a lady in the audience, that I remember also attending
the first town hall in Sunnyvale, Where EXACTLY do you stand on school vouchers.
Ms Burkett answered that her stand is the same as during the election, and it has
not changed. She believes vouchers are necessary because some kids, - due to no
fault of their own, aren't able to learn in public schools and the vouchers would give
them that option.
Fact: In Ms Burkett's first Town hall in Sunnyvale last week, She unequivocally stated
that she ONLY supported school Vouchers as a last resort and should not be
considered otherwise. However her handlers must have reminder her between then
and now, that was a major shift from her campaign and she reverted back to that
she does support vouchers.
Fact Check #4 When ask from a former police officer in the audience, right after
addressing the TSA Groping Bill, saying that it was invasive of people's privacy, In
relation to personal privacy being so important why then in the Sanctuary cities bill
did they choose to make it to where Officer could check immigration status upon
detention of a subject and not just arrest. As what point Ms Burkett answered "you
aren't going to detain someone unless you are arresting them"
False: Ms Burkett the Sanctuary Bill that you so proudly tout that you would support it
being passed next session, specifically allows Police officers to inquire on
immigration status upon detention not just upon arrest. And Ms Burkett since you are
on the Criminal Jurisprudence committee I think it's important that you know the
difference. People are "detained" all day every day for random reasons from traffic
stops where there is a vehicle search to simply being out after dark, there is not
necessarily mean they have done anything criminal it just basically means we're
"detaining" you for a short time to check out your story before we release you. An
arrest means, there are actual charges that will be filed on you...Big Difference
Fact check #5. When ask about the voter ID bill and if any cases had actually been
found of true voter fraud, to shows it to be a problem in this area, Ms Burkett
answered with oh yes there are have been thousands of cases its a problem.
False: Ms Burkett,. to Quote President Clinton " Voter Fraud in person is only slightly
more common than the Unicorn" One one case has been proven in the last 143
years. So no Voter fraud is not "very common" and it doesn't "happen all the time"
the one case you were able to site as reference was specifically mail in ballots, of
which you so generously pointed out is not even effected by the Voter ID bill..
July 8, 2011
Tomorrow We'll be holding the Democratic Social at Panera Bread as usual starting
@ 8:AM, But at 9:AM there is an Organizational meeting for Precinct 2304 being Held
at Palos Verdes park 4800 Olympia Mesquite TX 75150. Everyone is welcome to
attend both.
July 16, 2011
Yes, I do think that President Bush's tax cuts for families making over $250,000 a
year should be allowed to expire in 2013 as part of a debt-reduction deal.
July 25, 2011
Support Our President, work for a compromise, Show the world America can be
trusted to do the right thing. Contact Your representatives and tell them to make a
deal that is fair to all, not just a few. Rep. Hensarling 214-349-9996; Rep. Sessions:

July 26, 2011
Our Elected officials need to work and make a compromise happen, the well-being of
the majority of the American people and any future prosperity of our Nation cannot be

During this time of political and economic uncertainty, while our President and
democratic leadership face down the unreasonable demands of the opposition in
Washington, we will be doing our part here in seeking a fair and equal solution to the
problems we all face.
As we meet later today for our monthly meeting at Martinez, It is my hope that the
great concept of compromise on which so much of our country has been built on will
become the dominate conclusion in our nation's capitol.
At today's gathering we will be recapping the 3 recent town hall meetings held by
State Representative Cindy Burkett. I know many of you were unable to attend, and
are very interested in knowing what occurred at those meetings. The discussion
should be very informative.
We'll also be talking about upcoming events, such as Birthday celebrations in honor
of the President hitting the big 5-0 and most particularly, our club's Casino night &
Silent Auction on August 6th at Senor Jalapeno.
I hope to see many of you later, have a wonderful day, and try to stay cool.

I think it we are about to get to my least favorite time of campaign season..The
Primaries, what I suggest is that everyone do their own research. Don't rely on the
mailers to get your information. THEN pass it on to your friends and neighbors.
July 30, 2011
And Bob I don't disagree with any of that, my point is that people need to do their own
research. I have no reason to doubt Jill, I'm sure he did his homework and gathered
all the info he needed to put this out with the best intentions. However, because as
you pointed out the primaries in Dallas County have become so important , and where
this letter is probably every bit true everyone that is a responsible democratic voter in
Dallas county needs to do their homework not rely on mailers and letters. If this info
in this letter is true , as I'm sure it is, then in that process they will find out this
information anyways and give it the weight they choose to. (yes I know I'm in fairytale
land,,, but still he ask what I thought of the letter) The service pieces like this do serve
to people like me is though in cases where I haven't met or even heard of the people
running in a race I have the chance to look them up and do the research before I meet
them face to face and I know the questions I want to ask. BTW I did meet Ms Moore,
she seems very nice, but I have a feeling these 2 won't be the only 2 in that primary
race.
July 30, 2011
We have some very good democratic judges that if we all listened to mailers just like
this one on face value alone, we would not have today. In my opinion yes their past
voting record does play a part in my decision of who I support or don't support in a
primary, However it in no way is the only thing I use to gauge my decision..I will give
you this though, its always hard to prove you have flipped if you have NO democratic
voting history.
July 31, 2011
A tentative Agreement concerning raising the nation's Debt limit has been
announced. President Obama says it's not a done deal yet, the Bipartisan
compromise still has to be OK'd by Congress.
July 31, 2011
Ya know what gets missed in this scenario is that President Obama wasn't willing to
let our troops go without getting paid because congress wants to play games with
people's lives. Say what you will but without President Obama there would be no deal
and we more than likely would have defaulted.
August 1, 2011
I live in Texas as well and that's exactly why I won't sit out in 2012. Are you fircken'
kidding me? Have you seen what the tea party has done to our state this year. I refuse
to just sit back and let it happen.Do I get tired of getting knocked down, yes. But i
refuse to just watch my children's future just be whittled away by right wing
extremist with a mission to destroy us.
August 2, 2011
I think it is very important to Re-Elect President Obama. If he were to lose, all the
great accomplishments that have been made since January 2009 will be in jeopardy
of being undone. In addition, we must remember that he is but one man, and that we
will need to elect strong democratic leaders to help him. One of the best ways to do
this, will be the opportunity we will have to elect a Democratic Senator from Texas
next year.
August 5, 2011
Thank you Sandy, I'll share this. But apparently, his assistant did not know that he'll
be speaking at the Mesquite Area Republican Club on 8/29/11 6:00 - 7:30 p.m at the
La Prada Church of Christ where the Congressmen will speak on the current events
in Washington and District 5 and that they want to make sure all constituents are
there.
It's posted on the front page of their website http://www.mesquitegop.org/
