Here in Mesquite we currently do not have Single-member Districts. So even though I
live in Place 4 (South Mesquite) and no one is running in that Place this Year.  I could
vote on the Place 2 candidate (North Mesquite) even if that person does not live in my
District.

So until that is changed, I wouldn't experience the same situation you did today.

From my current understanding, and it could be off, - We are on our way to getting
light-rail here in Mesquite, But it will be a Mesquite-run, not a DART-run deal and if the
current proposed idea is adopted then we should link up at the nearby Lawnview
DART station. Once the project is begun, whenever that future date is, then the
shortest completion date would be 6-8 years from when it's started. So for example,
if it is started next year 2012, then it may be finished in 2018 or 2020. -- and Yes I'm in
Favor of bringing Light-rail to Mesquite.

Shannon & I voted yesterday at the  Lakeside Activety Building . Dennis Tarpley  and
Brad Underwood were the  only two candidates there. They were joined with a couple
of Pro-Beer & Wine supporters.   I was told by a couple of friends today that when
they went and voted earlier, that Dennis Tarpley and Al Forsythe were the only two
candidates there, along with a pair of Underwood supporters.

I am also hearing that other EV locations from across Dallas County is that EV is slow
going, but  attitude is positive.

Stopped briefly by EV this morning before the Panera Social.  Councilmen Dennis
Tarpley and Al Forsythe were there greeting and speaking with voters.  I was told
that thru Thursday, that there had been 900 votes cast.

Went on to Panera Bread for our weekly Democratic Social.

Where I finally got a look at the most recent version of the Mesquite Times.  It is a
piece of ridiculous, hateful crap.

After Panera,  I attended an Informational  meeting for Precinct 2304.

Later when I returned home and checked my email, I seen that Tarpley had sent out a
message about how his opponent David Fitzgerald's most recent financial report
shows that he has taken money from special interest groups, even though he said he
would never do that.

 Happy  Mother's  Day
May 8, 2011

This Friday, May 13th, the 2011 Mesquite Relay for Life will be held.

The Relay For Life is the American Cancer Society's national signature activity,
it is the main volunteer-driven cancer fundraising event of the ACS. The main
objective of Relay is to raise money for cancer research and cancer patients, and
spread cancer awareness, celebrate the lives of survivors, remember those
who lost their lives to cancer, and unite a community in the fight against cancer.

This community event is open to all who want to participate, and gives
everyone a chance to celebrate the lives of people who have battled cancer, to
remember loved ones that lost, and to fight back against the disease. The event  is
expected to attract hundreds of area residents.

This year's Relay will be held at Berry Middle School stadium  2675 Bear Dr  in
Mesquite. Starting at 7:00 PM and ending at 7:00 AM

The theme for this year's Relay is western, entitled  'Give Cancer the Boot'

In addition to the theme,  the Relay will hold a Luminaria Ceremony composed of
decorated lighted bags, honoring  loved ones who has  passed or is currently fighting
the disease. Usually, the Luminaria bags are used to spell out words such as HOPE
and CURE, and are  illuminated during the Ceremony. These bags will be  placed
around the track and glow-sticks inside them.

In past Relays,  sand has been used to hold the bags in place, But this year a canned
food drive is being held to gather cans of food to be placed inside the bags instead of
sand.  All the cans collected will then be donated to the Mesquite Social Services for
thier food bank.  It is asked that those attending the Relay to please bring at least one
can for the effort.

The Co-Chairs for this event are Carolyn Felkner and James Casarez.. The ACS
representative  is Brittany Johnson.

If you would like more information or have questions, please visit
http://www.relayforlife.org/relay or  contact Mr. Casarez by calling 972-897-8818 or
by email jamescasarez@gmail.com

See you Friday at Relay!

I have to say the "Daly Planet" I received in the mail today holds some interesting
information, as well as some comical value for the Clark Kent spin. Only thing is they
spelled "daily" wrong,  and there is no return address or signature to it, that's going
to cost them some on credibility. Interesting food for thought about the real estate
links both the candidates have. I'll have to do some research on that.
May 11, 2011

Received a copy of the "Daly Planet" in the mail today.  It's about our current city
council Elections. Brings to light a few points that have not been widely shared with
the voting public this election season. I wonder if the person who wrote this is named
"Daly"

GO VOTE,  The guy that you couldn't get to leave WILL be sitting on the council unless
we can get people out to vote and prevent it from happening .  I'm not happy with the
choices either, but, what we would get if we sit back and let it happen, has the
potential to do so much more damage.
May 14, 2011

You did a Great Job for the Relay, - on the committee and as our Team captain. All the
hard work you did helped make it a success, could not have don it without you.
May 15, 2011

Is VERY pleased with the results of yesterdays election, including the beer and wine
sales going through. I have faith that the council we have in place now has the
knowledge and the capability to make the ordinances strong enough that this will be
a positive change for Mesquite.
May 17, 2011

Reminder there is a Precinct Chair Training Tomorrow night from 630-9 @ the
Eastfield Pleasant Grove Campus 802 S. Buckner Dallas, Tx. You don't have to be a
PC to attend , anyone interested in finding out more about organizing in your percinct
is welcome to attend.

My concern for others and their well being does not make me a socialist nor
anti-american. It is not a bad thing to care for others nor is it un-american to hope
that our country moves forward in providing a standard of living and access to
services greater than we now have to our children.. I am getting tired of being called
names because I want the world to be a better place; for EVERYONE.-thx
May 14, 2011

Congratulations to Dennis Tarpley and Al Forsythe on their Re-Elections to the
Mesquite City Council.
May 17, 2011

Hope to see many of you tomorrow for the Precinct Chair Training from 6:30 to 9 PM,
at the Eastfield College Pleasant Grove Campus, Room 108, 802 S. Buckner, Dallas.

On Saturday, May  21st  Save Texas Schools will hold a Rally  at the Texas State
Capitol Building  10:AM - 4:PM

The legislature will be in session that Saturday to work on the funding bills. The goal
is to have as many Save Texas Schools supporters as possible flood the Capitol
throughout the day to remind leaders of our priorities.

Our message is, “The Eyes of Texas Are Upon You! We’re watching, we’ll remember
and we VOTE!

Volunteers can choose the morning shift (10 am to 1 pm) or afternoon shift (1 to 4
pm).

Here’s what to do to take part:

1. E-mail at
info@savetxschools.org  to let us know you’re coming. If you’re bringing
a group, give us the approximate number. Also, include which shift you prefer, or
whether you will come for the full day.

2. When you arrive, go to the Family Life Center of First United Methodist Church
(Family Life Center), 1201 Lavaca St., on the west side of the Capitol. We’ll have t-
shirts, printed materials and group assignments. If you have Save Texas Schools
shirts already, please bring them!

3. Volunteers will go in groups to approximately 6 offices for 20 minute visits with
staff. Our goal is to have each office visited by 8-10 groups. All volunteers will also
have the chance to sit in the House or Senate galleries and be a silent witness
(though your t-shirt will speak loud and clear). We will also be able to be more vocal
in the lobby by the entrance to the House Chamber.

4. We’ll have snacks and drinks at FUMC. The Capitol Grille (cafeteria) will also be
open. Parking is plentiful at the State Capitol Visitors parking garage.

5. More questions? Call us at 512-653-4935 or e-mail
info@savetxschools.org

IF YOU CAN”T COME TO THE CAPITOL, YOU CAN STILL TAKE PART!

We need several hundred folks to be calling throughout the day on May 21! Our goal
is that these offices spend the day either answering Save Texas Schools calls or
meeting with our volunteers. This will be a HUGE encouragement to those who have
stood for education, and a frightening reminder to those who haven’t of the strength
of our voice!

If you want to be on the phone team on May 21, e-mail
info@savetxschools.org Tell
us where you are from, times you can work and who your representative and senator
are.

This evening we held our Third DACED workshop with a Precinct Chair Training class
as the main focus of it.  This evening's class was held at the Eastfield College

Texas’ New Mandatory Sonogram Law One of the Most Invasive in US

Governor signs “emergency” sonogram bill into law

(Austin, TX) --The political assault on women’s health advanced today as Governor
Perry signed into law a bill that mandates invasive sonogram procedures for Texas
women seeking abortion care. The Governor banked his personal and political capital
on this law when he declared the bill an “emergency” early this session, prioritizing it
above all other pressing issues.

“Texans expected their elected officials to tackle our public education system,
create jobs, and to find solutions to Texas’ financial crisis,” said Jeffrey Hons,
President and CEO of Planned Parenthood Trust of South Texas. “Instead of
addressing the economy, job creation and other key issues, the Texas Legislature
fixated on shaming Texas women seeking safe, legal abortion procedures.”

Under HB 15, a woman who chooses to have an abortion will be forced to undergo a
sonogram procedure, even if it is medically unnecessary. In most cases, the
procedure will require an internal vaginal probe sonogram, not the external
sonogram reserved for women later in pregnancy. The bill also scripts physicians in
their patient relationships and requires doctors to display the ultrasound image to the
woman, to broadcast a heart tone if present, and to describe the dimensions of the
embryo or fetus, including the presence of external members and internal organs.

“The law establishes new ways to humiliate and shame women but does nothing to
protect Texas women and teens from unintended pregnancies,” said Karen
Hildebrand, President and CEO of Planned Parenthood of West Texas. “If leadership
in the Texas Capitol was looking for real solutions instead of just political ones they
would focus on education and access to contraception.”

Very narrow exceptions to the bill’s provisions are granted for victims of rape and
incest, women experiencing pregnancies involving certain fetal abnormalities, and
for women who can meet the bill’s strict definition of “medical emergency”. Women
who live more than 100 miles away from a licensed abortion facility are required to
wait two hours between the mandatory sonogram and the abortion procedure, while
women living less than 100 miles from a facility are required to wait 24 hours. Texas
law already required that women receive state-mandated and medically inaccurate
information 24 hours before an abortion procedure.

“63% of women who choose abortion are already mothers, and are capable of
making such an intensely personal and private decision in consultation with her
family, her doctor and her God. Texas women don’t need Governor Perry dictating
how an abortion is performed. What they do need is leadership that is working to
ensure that Texas families have the resources they need to plan and care for their
children--like quality education, affordable housing, accessible health care and jobs
where they can earn a decent living,”  said Felicia Goodman, CEO of Planned
Parenthood of Central Texas.
