On Saturday March 12 the Mesquite Relay for Life will be holding  A Survivor
Breakfast in honor of survivors of Cancer.  The breakfast will be held 8:30 AM - 10:30
AM in the fellowship hall of Minosa Lane Baptist Church 1233 Beltline Rd. in Mesquite.

This event is just one of many leading up to the night of Relay on May 13th at Berry
Middle School in Mesquite.

The Relay For Life is the American Cancer Society's national signature activity. It is an
overnight run/walk event where Teams raise money to fund  ACS efforts to
eliminate cancer as a major health problem. Team members take turns on a track for
20 minutes to an hour at a time, always keeping at least one person from their team
on the track throughout the Relay.

Cancer Survivors are the heart of the Relay For Life, and their presence is a powerful
declaration that cancer can be beaten. Anyone who has ever battled cancer is invited
to celebrate life and hope by joining the Relay For Life.

is Mr. Underwood's 2nd run for Mesquite city council.  David Fitzgerald has filed to run
against Tarpley.

Today Shannon and I sat down and spoke with David Fitzgerald.  Why He is running
for Mesquite  City Council against Dennis Tarpley.  Over lunch at Applebees, we
talked about we talked about his campaign and reasons for running.

His top 3 issues are Transparency, Lower Taxes, and less government.  He is not
happy with Tarpley's  actions on the council and thinks he's not worked in  Mesquite
best interest.   Mr. Fitzgerald lives in North Mesquite with wife and family,  he is the
former President of the Mesquite Area Republican Club (MARC), he is working on a
campaign website which should be up and running soon. He declined at this time, to
name who his campaign manager is. His positions on some of the bigger issues are:
he is against bringing Retail  Beer & wine sales to Mesquite, He is in favor of Term
limits for city council members,  he is against bringing light-rail to Mesquite, and is in
favor of moving City Council meetings from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM
To contact him, his email is:
david@fitzformesquite.com

I have invited Mr. Fitzgerald to the DACED municipal candidates forum on April 27,
which he has accepted.  His opponent, Dennis Tarpley has already indicated that he
also will be at the DACED forum.

Happy  Texas  Independence  Day !!
March 5, 2011

I think the unions gave a lot of ground when they conceded to all the hikes the
government wanted to impose. The fact that Walker is not willing to give on the
collective bargaining rights, proves this has absolutely nothing to do with balancing
his budget and everything to do with his political ego.. I'm telling you, you know as
well as I do , you tick off the Police and the Teachers, you won't be re-elected, hope
he wasn't planning on a long stay as WI Governor.
March 6, 2011

That is the Republican way, talk all the way around a question without actually
answering anything, It worked for several republican politicians in the 2010 elections.

I'm not  talking about anything other than this style, I agree there are several
Republicans that are intelligent and do some good things, This style that Michelle
Bachman has however, can be found identically when you watch the Governor from
Arizona, and Rep Riddle down south, I think they must have the same consultants or
something because they definitely all have the same play book.

We drew lines as parties about 200 years ago thats nothing new, however, Being
straight or gay is not a political issue, thats a human rights issue. And while you are
right there are LGBT that vote on both sides of the isle ,there is only one side of the
"isle" that their representatives consistently votes against LGBT interest. I have
friends that are gay that are Democrat (most of them) and friends that are gay that
vote Republican, they are just like alot of others ,, most people vote against their own
best interest.

Perry just doesn't get it, their answer to everything is it will bring in money by cutting
jobs, There are certain things that should always be off limits when making cuts to
balance the budget and Schools and Public safety are at the top of that list. 5 million
over 2 years is not worth the chaos it would create dismantling and trying to combine
these agencies.

weekend stay tuned we have more exciting and fun fundraisers coming this next

344 people went home from work today and contemplated their futures without
employment. Meanwhile, in Austin, our job-killing, Republican supermajority
government leaders patted themselves on the back for passing voter ID legislation.

Nope, a non-citizen can still get a drivers license and an ID, which I will say I have no
problem with them just using a photo ID or DL as your Voter Registration as well, that
would make too much since, and it would save the money of having to send out the
card, as we as the necessity of voter registration. However if you think this is all
about voter fraud you are wrong, Republican Rep Van Taylor of plano said it best its
about making sure the "right people" are voting.

Bob there are so many problems with that way of thinking, not the least of which is
you are essentially saying that if a person that used to make 80,000 a year was layed
off and now works for Mcdonalds and is making 20,000 a year which would make his
income tax almost non existant , and then if he has dependants it would be non
existant, meaning in your world although he was worthy of having a voice last year
when he made 80k he is now less of a person and his voice doesn't count because
he has now taken a smaller income to support his family. Of course he will still have
to live by the rules and laws that those you say are worthy have put in place, be they
fiscal or moral, but unless more jobs are created he will not have any say in them.
Which seems to me would be a perfect senerio for the "worthy" because they could
get pretty much whatever they want as long as they can keep the number of people
that can afford to be voters to a minimum.

Bob not everyone that uses the system is abusing the system , we all know people
that abuse it , and it irritates the heck out of me to, but not enough to make it to where
we are turning our backs on people that need help, It is no doubt a broken system,
but taking voting rights away isn't going to help , and certainly defunding schools and
laying off 344 more teachers isn't going to help.

Eliminate jobs, call them what they are, jobs that are tied to actual people that have
families to support,, But that aside, Even in a business you have priorities on what you
can and can't cut and what you can and can't do to insure that you still turn out a
quality product, if machines are broken you have to replace them you don't have the
money , so you have to spend money you don't have to insure that your business is
still there two years from now. Same thing here, if you cut the teachers and strain the
educational system what quality of citizenry are you expecting to end up with. We
can't go backwards as a country make cuts in places I understand that but there are
certain area's that should always be off limits and insuring our kids have opportunity
is at the top of that list.

Trust me I understand how easy it is to only see bad when all you see is bad
everyday. I see it too,, heck that defines my whole occupation.. But I have seen the
other side too the people that I can see their pride is so broken just to be having to
ask for the smallest hand up and see how the smallest relief makes such a big
difference.

Good point Bob, Although unfortunately not everyone is brought up in a good stable
home with 2 parents that support you and your goals, which is where the foundation
for those choices comes from. some have different perspectives on what are good
choices,. Some things that seem like the right choices when you are 18 don't seem
so great looking back from 36.

"They feel like they were elected to make cuts, and they just accurately reflect what
their constituents want." .. Next November they will get a loud and clear voice telling
them what their constituents REALLY want, someone with common sense that
knows how to prioritize properly without killing jobs, and sacrificing our kids and
grandparents futures for personal gain.

It looks like the Tea Party is gonna cause the Federal Government to shut down.
Causing this situation is irresponsible and stupid. It's not good for our Nation. A
compromise based in Reality needs to be made.
March  29, 2011

We'll be holding of General Membership meeting tomorrow. Our Program will be a
Legislative Issues Panel, in which we will be discussing and answering questions
about all the important topics that have been and are currently being dealt with in
Austin.

In addition, I also would like to hear from anyone who has gone done to the Capitol in
the last month to participate in any Rallies or Marches, to let us all know what it was
like and any thoughts you may have about your experience.

We'll also be giving all of you and update on how well our Relay For Life Team is
doing, and when and what Team Miklos's next event will be.

See you at Martinez !

Planned parenthood is really diligent in separating funding for patient care and
abortions , No government funds go toward abortions. Less than 1% of the services
Planned Parenthood provides are abortions, but people like to make it seem like its
all they do......Here is where I'm sure I will open myself up for attacks, I don't think the
government should pay for abortions, at all, but I also don't think the government
should have any say,, at all in what a woman choses to do with her body.

Bruce they do perform abortions, but they separate them , you can't go to just any PP
and get an abortion, they only do them in certain locations called "surgical centers",
and they are funded privately...

There may be alot of places to get birth control but thats not all they do PP is a
necessary agency,, They give needed affordable services like pap smears, and
mamograms, they give screenings and treatment for STD's. The majority of their
services are for prevention of pregnancies. And they treat men as well as women
and the other local clinics don't' give the same services with the payment structure
planned parenthood does... Bruce if you are really interested in learning how and
what Planned Parenthood does things including the funding of abortions I have the
name of the representatives we brought out to our club last month , she was very
helpful in answering all kinds of questions that we all had on this issue.
