Here in Mesquite there are always opportunities for residents to help out their
neighbors, and as I looked over my calendar for the coming week,  four such
opportunities to do good caught my eye.

First, on July 19th between 4:00 PM - 8:00 PM,  there will be a fundraiser at the
Texas Roadhouse 1420 N. Peachtree Rd.  for Kenny Antuna,  a 2 year old boy with
Hemophilia.
10 % of your total food purchase that evening will be donated to his cause.

On Thrusday July 22nd there will be two good deed opportunities.  Beginning at
11:00 AM and going on till 3:00 PM, at Eastfield College, the American Red Cross will
be holding a Blood Drive in Room C-135.   Please contact Cynthia Taylor  @
972.860.7190  to schedule an appointment.

Then that night, there will be a fundraiser for Mrs. Carol Bland held at the Spaghetti
Warehouse Italian Grill  3855 W. Emporium Cir..  Carol is a Breast Cancer Patient
who is in need of financial assistance, and will be having surgery in August.  20% of
your total food purchase will go to help Carol.  You may also contribute by sending
donations to:
Carol Bland  4119  Hyde Park  Mesquite   TX  75150  She can also be reached
by email:  carolbland@hotmail.com

The last one I'm pointing out will be a Garage Sale being held in Mesquite on
Saturday July 24th Benefiting  Patti Kelley, wife of Michael Kelley. She has been
diagnosed with colon cancer, and the The two of them are holding the Garage sale
to help offset medical costs. The Sale will be held  at Shamrock Pest Control  1515

These are but four of any of a number of Good deed opportunities to be found in our
community any given week.  Hopefully you will be able to make one of them.

So why is there no repercussions for FOX news who continually ruins people's lives
with bad media practices, not even bothering to research stories before they air
them and get people fired. I think that when FOX news is given enough power to
pressure the Dept of Agriculture to make knee jerk decisions to keep from ending
up on Glen Beck ,, there is a problem.  This lady was wronged on so many levels,
somebody needs to make it right, I don't know how,, but seriously, someone has to
be held accountable.

Denise Scott is Executive Assistant to the Secretary Thomas J. Vilsack. Her phone
number is: 202-720-3631. Her email address is: Denise.Scott2@usda.gov. Take a
min or 2 to send an email telling them how unacceptable their actions were and that
they need to do whatever they have to do to get her to come back , because honestly
we can't afford to lose people with the personal integrity of Ms Sherrod in our
government.

A week ago today, Mesquite Resident and Community leader Rachel Lopez hosted a
morning Reception for  former Houston Mayor and Texas Gubernatorial Candidate Bill
White.

Mr. White was in Dallas County Tuesday campaigning for the Governorship. He is in a
tight race with Gov. Perry and the D-FW area will be crucial to any victory.  His visit to
Mesquite, and Texas House District 101  underscores the importance that Eastern
Dallas County plays in choosing the next Governor of Texas.

The Reception, held at the home of  Mrs. Lopez and her husband Sal, was attended by
a wide cross-section of the community.  Among many local residents  in attendance
to meet Candidate White, included  State Rep. Robert Miklos, State Representative
Carol Alvarado,  Mesquite City Councilman Bill Porter,  Justice of the Peace Candidate
2-2 Wesley Johnson,  and Pastor Bruce Archer.

In the living room of the Lopez home,  Mr. White spoke of how and why Texas needs a
new Governor.  A Governor who is not in it for himself and not influenced by special
interests.  That Texas needs to get it's economy back on track, and that  a good
Public Education system is part of that solution.  Other issues discussed included
insurance rates, energy, and Border security.

Many people who attended the morning event, were very happy with the opportunity
to meet Mr. White and ask him questions on issues that were important to them.  Deb
Brimer, of Mesquite, expressed her gratitude to Mrs. Lopez on the invitation and
opportunity to meet Bill White.  Barbara Rojas, also of Mesquite, thanked Rachel for
opening up her home to host the event.

"It was indeed an honor to have Bill White at our home today;" Mrs. Lopez said.
"What a gracious man he is. I want to thank all of you who attended, as well. We had
a wonderful  turnout. In hosting this event  I wanted to give our community the chance
to meet a man who really  cares about our great State of Texas...and not only that, but
cares enough to come  to Mesquite..to our home and meet my friends, neighbors and
fellow community  leaders."

you will make plans to attend.

This month's Speaker and Program will be Kristina Hahsler,  Founder/Executive
Director of Dallas Can Do Better. The Subject will be the Death Penalty.  Certainly an
issue that many of you have an opinion on.

While I have your attention, I want to mention a few things that we'll talk about further
when I see Y'all at the meeting, and in the next couple of months. ---- our club will be
having a table at the DCDP Labor Day Picnic on Sept. 6th,  Our club meeting in
October will begin at 8:00 PM, instead of 7:00 PM  Due to Early-Voting, and our
November meeting will be held on November 17.  There are more future event Dates

information out to all of you in a some-what timely manner.  We'll discuss more as
needed, thank you for understanding.

Justice of the Peace 2-2 Candidate Wesley Johnson, joined in on this morning's
Business networking event at Carino's Italian Grill in Mesquite, which was put on by
the Mesquite Chamber of Commerce.

Mr. Johnson mingled and spoke with several of Mesquite's small-business leaders.

Mr. Johnson appreciates the Chamber for holding these morning  breakfasts, for they
are an excellent way to meet  small businessmen and women, and learn about what
issues they think are most important concerning  the Mesquite Business community.

Yesterday, a day after attending the Mesquite Chamber of Commerce morning
roundup, Justice of the Peace Candidate Wesley Johnson was in Balch Springs; at
that communities's Chamber of Commerce open House.

The mid-day open house attracted about two-dozen members of the local Balch
Springs business community.

Even though Mr. Johnson fequents many of the Bach Springs chamber's events, the
Open house provided a great opportunity to meet new people whom do not usually
attend the regular monthly luncheons.

After leaving the open house, Mr. Johnson went on to visit several of the merchants
located in the Pioneer Shopping center. Intoducing himself, getting to know who they
are, and asking them what they expect form their local Justice of the Peace.  He
answered many questions, and recieved much positive feedback.

She and her allies are doing there best to Frame the dialogue to show Robert doesn't
really represent the interests of the people of HD 101, and that he's only there
because he rode-in on Obama's coattails. I have heard that Mesquite is now 51%
Democrat and Growing. Robert has done alot of good work for all the citizens of
Mesquite, B.S., and Sunnyvale. We need to Re-Elect him.
October 10, 2010

I find it hilarious that her platform is that she is not politics as usual , yet in last weeks
DMN article she states this as her experience...

Career: Former deputy regional director for state Sen. Bob Deuell; current State
Republican Execu...tive Committee member for Senate District 2; state Republican
convention delegate; election judge and election clerk; no previous political races

I get tired of people saying that Robert doesn't represent our communities values,, I
beg your pardon, I am a part of this community and he represents my values very
well. Narrow minded people that think that they are the only ones whose views count,
and that think they are the majority just because they are louder, really annoy me.
Look around Mesquite if you open your eyes no way can you say that we are anything
but politically diverse, there have been polls that we even lean more left than right.
Just because the politics as usual that SOME people have made the norm has made
alot of the citizens in this city tired and given them the impression that they don't
count , doesn't mean they don't exist , Robert sees that, he hears that , he represents
them as well as all these people that think they are better than , "the least of these".
And don't even bother trying to earn their votes in their campaigns.

Today the Mesquite TEA Party will be hosting a candidate forum featuring two of
our local candidates, and friends: Robert Miklos and Jerry Pittman. The forum will be
held at the La Prada Church of Christ at 6:30 p.m

We all know what the TEA Party has done to our nation’s political discourse. They
demonize our President as a fascist and a socialist, they slander Democrats as
unpatriotic, and they continually heighten the divisiveness of our politics. To them, it’s
good versus bad—and they think WE’RE the bad guys.

I enjoy political debate. But I cannot stand to hear senseless rhetoric and radical
talking points regurgitated as unquestionable truth. I think we need to teach the TEA
Party a lesson.

The TEA Party must to learn that they cannot hijack what we’ve worked so very  hard
for. The TEA Party must learn that our community deserves and demands honest and
open discussions about our government—not slurs, slanders, or screaming.

The TEA Party must learn OUR strength.

Join with me and send a message to the TEA Party that Eastern Dallas County
cannot be taken away from us so easily. Join me in taking a stand for common-sense
government. Join me in supporting our friends here at home.
October 20, 2010

Well the other things you can add to your list, is she is supporting legislation that will
allow federal $$ to be also given to Charter schools, I as the mother of 3 kids in MISD
schools that had to beg for a text book for my child to bring ...Home so I can help her
with her homework, am beyond concerned about that. Our kids are already having to
compromise their education, this would result in automatically deferring in the area
of 40 million dollars from our public schools just here in Mesquite. We can't afford to
elect someone that doesn't put our children first. Miklos is the best candidate by far.

And without a doubt, what is sad is that whoever wrote this letter also thought that
cutting all these things is a good thing,,

I didn't get this letter but I heard several people yesterday mentioning the letter, I'm
curious who they targeted for this mailer, but if you are thinking it is false , I assure
you I have heard Cindy several time unequivocally State her views on the voucher
system, so the other things don't surprise me at all, I totally believe it.
October 21, 2010

Ladies and Gentlemen this is not a joke, this was a very real mailer sent out by a
Burkett supporter who has no other objective than to hijack our political system and
turn out the ultra conservative element in our community, and they are COUNTING ON
us not to pay attention and to not turn out to vote, GO VOTE, if you... Have already
voted, go to every one of your neighbors and get them to vote this is no longer a
Democrat VS Republican issue its an attack on our city services and attack on our
elderly.
October 21, 2010

This should concern you if you have a child that goes to public schools. The Voucher
system they are touting as a good thing she supports will result in around 40 million
$$ being taken from our public schools right off the bat. As a parent of a child whom I
had to beg to get a text book for them to bring home for ONE ...day so I could help her,
this is beyond disturbing. We can't afford Cindy Burkett
